The CELPIP test is now accepted in Australian key TAFE institutions

We have exciting news to share: The CELPIP English proficiency test, which was introduced in Australia in late 2025 as a new option for language requirement evidence in residency applications, is now accepted by select TAFE institutions across the country to meet their entry requirements.

In this article, we will show you exactly which TAFE providers are now accepting CELPIP General and also how you can prepare for the test and pass it on the first go.

Before getting started, it’s important to know that E2 is recognised as an official CELPIP Network Silver Member. This distinction means our content, courseware, and teaching have been reviewed and endorsed by Prometric, the owner of CELPIP, as being of the highest quality.

The CELPIP test is now accepted in Australian TAFE key institutions: What is CELPIP and what makes it special

CELPIP stands out from other English proficiency exams—and that distinction matters. Unlike tests designed for global audiences, CELPIP is tailored for real-world English as it’s used in countries like Canada and Australia.

There are two versions of CELPIP, each suited to different goals:

CELPIP General: This comprehensive version evaluates your skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It’s the choice for immigration, professional certification, and permanent residency applications. The test takes about 3 hours in total: listening (47–55 minutes), reading (43–56 minutes), writing (53 minutes), and speaking (15 minutes).

CELPIP General LS A shorter, more focused assessment that tests only listening and speaking. It’s designed specifically for Canadian citizenship requirements. We only mention it so you know there is another type, but for TAFE entry, you’ll need to take the CELPIP General.

What Sets CELPIP Apart?

CELPIP is taken entirely on a computer—you’ll type your answers, click through questions, and record your speaking responses using a microphone. Unlike other tests, there’s no live examiner for the speaking section, which many find less intimidating.

While all the content used to be rooted in Canadian contexts, Prometric has expanded the test topics, and you will definitely find familiar matters in the daily Aussie life.

Results are delivered quickly, usually within 3 to 5 days. CELPIP scores are directly aligned with the International Language Benchmarks, so there’s no need for complicated conversions—your results will be ready for the TAFE admissions officers to review.

Best of all, the entire test is completed in one sitting. There’s no need for a separate speaking interview, unlike IELTS. CELPIP streamlines the process, making it straightforward and efficient for test-takers.

The CELPIP test is now accepted in Australian TAFE key institutions: Final note

With focused preparation, you can significantly increase your English proficiency and close the gap between ‘still waiting’ and ‘application submitted.’ Sometimes, just a few additional CLB points make all the difference—and they’re within reach with the right strategy.

Success on the CELPIP test isn’t only about knowing English; it’s about applying your language skills effectively. By mastering the test format, using the right tone and structure, steering clear of memorised responses, expanding on your ideas, and carefully reviewing your work, you’ll dramatically increase your chances of reaching your target score.

CELPIP is modelled on real-life English use. The more you practice speaking naturally and confidently in real-world situations, the better you’ll perform on test day.
