What is the PTE Speaking Describe Image task?

PTE Describe Image is one of the 8 tasks in the Speaking section of the PTE Academic exam. This task will test your speaking capability in a practical way. Your test day instructions should look very similar to the example below for your PTE Speaking Describe Image Task.

PTE Speaking Describe Image

In the Describe Image task, you must describe an image on the screen before you. As mentioned above, you will have 25 seconds to prepare and 40 seconds to deliver a response by speaking into the microphone. The image could be a map, a line graph, a bar chart, a pie graph, a combination of graphs, or even a picture. The methods you learn with E2 can be used for all image types.

PTE Speaking Describe Image: E2 Expert Method

PTE Describe Image

The method for PTE Describe Image is straightforward. You will focus on the following aspects about the image: The title and x-axis; three key features: the lowest, the highest and one other; and a conclusion

The conclusion will be a summary, a prediction, or a reason you can infer from the information displayed.
Commit this pattern to memory! Repeat the pattern out loud to yourself many times until you remember the three main parts: Title and x-axis, three key features and conclusion.

This method will directly apply to graphs with a title and an x-axis. But some images won’t have an x-axis or a title! Instead, you’ll add some information, creating a title for the image and extra important information, similar to the information in the x-axis!
